Eddie
Thomas Edison (Eddie) was born deaf, close to euthanization because he would be “inconvenient.” He is named after Thomas Edison, who attributed much of his genius to his own deafness. Eddie is a great addition to our therapeutic programs.
Eddie is deaf and loves to help children who are hard of hearing.
He’s known as our “cuddle bug!
Please help Eddie help others.
Eddie is an Australian Cattle Dog, also known as a Blue Heeler, who was born deaf. When his breeder discovered his condition, they planned to euthanize him as a puppy. Thankfully, he was rescued by another breeder who fostered him until he joined RNR in 2022. He’s named after Thomas Edison, the renowned inventor who credited much of his brilliance to his deafness.
Our goal is to prepare Eddie for our Side by Side animal-assisted therapy program, and he’s making great progress! He’s already been on a few outings and has proven to be a crowd favorite. Friendly and calm, he recently handled a visit to a large music venue like a pro. Next, we’ll take him on more local trips, culminating in participation in our new program for veterans dealing with PTSD. We also envision him forming a special bond with deaf and hard-of-hearing children, showcasing that being “different” can be both charming and exciting.
Eddie loves napping and patrolling the ranch with his companion and fellow Blue Heeler, Oakley, who serves as his guide. His dislikes include the Amazon delivery man and baths! We are grateful every day to the local breeder who rescued Eddie from a situation where another breeder deemed a deaf dog “inconvenient” and unworthy of a loving home.
